Toyohashi Station

[Roadside Station Fudegaki no Sato Kota]

Souvenirs and creative cuisine made with Kota Town's local specialty, the fudegaki persimmon

The fudegaki persimmon, which gets its name from the fact that it is round on top and tapered at the bottom like the tip of a fude calligraphy brush, is a local specialty of Kota Town, Nukata County. At the roadside station Fudegaki no Sato Kota, surrounded by persimmon fields, fresh fruits and vegetables are sold, including, of course, fudegaki in the autumn. Fudegaki, like most persimmons, are harvested in the fall, but with a number of food and drink products made from fudegaki to choose from, from wine to sweet snacks, visitors to Fudegaki no Sato can enjoy the taste of fudegaki throughout the year. At the restaurant inside the rest stop, diners can enjoy unusual yet delicious dishes made with fudegaki, such as the enormous "Fudegaki Miso Katsu-Don", a rice bowl meal with deep-fried pork cutlet and sweet-and-salty miso sauce topped with fudegaki paste. One of Kota’s sister cities is Shimabara, Nagasaki, which is known for its somen noodles. The restaurant also serves "Shimabara Somen DX", made with somen produced in Shimabara.
