[Atera-no-Nanataki Waterfall]

A beautiful waterfall comprised of seven falls cascading down from about 62 m high

Water from the Suyama Highlands falls gracefully down the seven steps of conglomerate fault scarp. The waterfall is of academic value in that it falls from a conglomerate rock, and legend has it that this conglomerate, known as the "Kodaki-ishi", blesses people with babies. The waterfall has been nationally designated as a place of scenic beauty and a natural monument, and was selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls. It attracts crowds of people in spring while the leaves are a lush green, and in autumn when they change color. It is said that the exorcist Abe-no-Seimei carried out his ascetic training here when he was young.
