[Toyokawa Daimyo Gyoretsu]
Enjoy a short play by the Nagamochishu! Daimyo Gyoretsu (lord's procession) in Akasaka Shuku, on the Old Tokaido
A noble procession makes its way down historic streets with old inns, where the atmosphere of an Edo-period post town still lingers. Bringing up the rear of the Daimyo Gyoretsu procession, a group of men called the Nagamochishu put on a short play at a festival in the Akasaka Sugimori Hachiman Shrine. Hachiman Shrine is famous for the stage located within its precincts, and doll plays, performances of sacred Shinto music and so on have been included among the devotional activities carried out there since ancient times. The traditional entertainments in the shrine are real festival highlights.
