[Toyohashi Haristos Orthodox Church]

A Russian Orthodox Church in a beautiful Byzantine style

This white-walled church with its green spire was built in 1913. It is an elegant church with an octagonal bell tower, pure white siding and copper roofing, and even now, 100 years after it was constructed, its presence draws the gaze of people in the town. On display inside you will find large numbers of sacred images (icons), and there are also carvings by Japan's first icon artist, Rin Yamashita. The church has been designated as one of the nation’s important cultural properties.
