Tokyo Station, Shinagawa Station
One of the world's largest dojinshi markets, and a festival of cosplayers
The Comic Market ("Comike" for short) is a large-scale dojinshi (self-published comic) fair. The venue is a guaranteed maelstrom of excitement, thronging with people come to buy and sell dojinshis. Dojinshi fever fills the whole neighborhood as people flock to the venue to get their hands on highly sought-after goods. The event started more than 40 years ago, and is held twice a year, once in summer and once in winter. One of the big draws of the Comic Market is that all the visitors share a feeling of unity as "participants", and there are always lots of cosplayers around to give the proceedings an extra boost of color. Needless to say then, the number of visitors keeps going up year after year.
