[Murayama Sengen Shrine]

The center of Mt. Fuji ascetic practices. Retaining the ancient syncretism of Shinto and Buddhism

Many of the components of the World Heritage Site Fujisan are related to ancient Mt. Fuji worship. "Murayama Sengen Shrine" was established in the late Kamakura period and flourished as the center of ascetic practices. In the precincts, there are several Sengen Shrine and Dainichido which remind one of the syncretization of Shinto with Buddhism. It was registered as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site.
