[Kanagawa Prefectural Park Onshi-Hakone Park]
A prime spot for a spectacular panoramic view overlooking Lake Ashinoko
This park is located on a peninsula jutting out into Lake Ashinoko on grounds that were once the property of Hakone Palace. In the Meiji period, the Palace was built as a summer resort for the imperial family and as a place to welcome distinguished guests from abroad. The building is now open to the public. Its most attractive features are the beautiful Japanese-style garden and the panoramic view overlooking Lake Ashinoko and Mt. Fuji. The Lakeside Observation Building was modeled after Hakone Palace and has a display room (free of charge) and a cafe. There is also a bicycle rental service (additional fee required) inside the park that is useful for visiting popular tourist spots around the park such as Hakone Sekisho and Hakone-jinja Shrine.
