Enjoy a resort-like atmosphere and puffer fish cuisine on this easy-to-access island
The water currents of Mikawa Bay and Ise Bay mix together in the waters around Shinojima Island, and the island enjoys an abundance of fresh seafood. Puffer fish, known as fugu in Japanese, is its most notable specialty, and many people visit the island to enjoy puffer fish cuisine. The island is also famous for the exquisite sunset on the west side of the island, and with bathing in the sea, year-round fishing, and more, there is no shortage of enjoyable activities to be had here. Just like its neighboring Saku Island and Himaka Island, Shinojima Island is gaining attention, as it offers a resort-like atmosphere only a short distance from Nagoya. The unique Onbedai Hono Festival, in which the people of the island offer their salted sea bream to Ise Jingu Shrine, is held in autumn, and the many events held during the festival bring the whole island to life.
Shinojima Island has been called “Matsushima Island of Tokai” due to its great scenic beauty
