[Toyota Municipal Museum of Art]
A sophisticated museum where the building itself is a work of art
The Toyota Municipal Museum of Art is located on a hilltop with a spectacular view of Toyota City, where a castle belonging to the Koromo clan once stood. The building is one of the masterpieces of architect Yoshio Taniguchi and its simple design, opaque white glass, and deep green slate have the sublime impression of a work of art. The museum's collection mainly features works of art and design from the 20th century, and also holds a number of temporary exhibitions. Next to the museum is the Takahashi Setsuro Gallery, which hosts magnificent lacquerwork by its eponymous artist, including lacquer panels, folding screens, calligraphy, prints, and more.
