[Handa Red Brick Building]
Former beer brewery site offering a beer which is no longer produced
The Handa Red Brick Building is the former production site of Kabuto Beer, the beer that once held the largest share in the Tokai area's beer market and was awarded a gold medal at the Paris Expo in 1900. The building features double walls and fireproof heat-insulated flooring to keep the temperature and humidity constant. With various ingenious devices essential for beer production dotted around, the building is designated as a nationally registered Tangible Cultural Property. Now, the history of Kabuto Beer along with the passion of its pioneers is introduced in the building as a permanent display. The adjacent cafe serves recreated Kabuto Beer.
|Posted photos||Main The building was designed by Yorinaka Tsumaki, one of the greatest architects of the Meiji period, who also designed the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse.
