Joren Falls | Japan Highlights Travel, for sightseeing around Tokaido

Mishima Station

[Joren Falls]

When you visit this prime Izu tourist spot, stop by the nearby tourist center as well

Located at Mt. Amagi in Yugashima, Izu City, Joren Falls is a huge waterfall that is about 25 meters high and 7 meters wide. It was selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls in 1990 (by the former Japanese Ministry of the Environment, with support from the Forestry Agency). Nestled deep in nature, the falls had already attracted many writers and artists with their mysterious beauty when they featured in the hit song "Amagigoe" in the Showa period. This additional boost in fame secured their position as one of Izu's most iconic scenic locations. Exploring the surrounding area, you will get to experience the unique natural wonders of Amagi. In particular, you will see Jorenshida—wild ferns (woodwardia unigemmata) that have been designated as a natural monument by the prefecture—and fields of an Amagi specialty: wasabi. Joren Falls Tourist Center is located nearby. Drop in to enjoy food such as wasabi bowls, and shop for local specialties.
