Mishima is so famous for its water that it's sometimes even called "The City of Water". The water comes from subterranean rivers beneath Mt. Fuji, and in it swim the unagi (freshwater eels) which go on to become firm and delicious "Mishima unagi" without the excess fat and characteristic pungency. Mishima unagi is representative of this region, and picking your absolute favorite among the many restaurants that vie with each other to serve the very best is a great way to spend a visit.
