[Mishima Taisha Shrine]
Pray for better fortune at the sanctuary of Minamoto no Yoritomo
Since ancient times, Mishima Taisha Shrine has been regarded as one of the most divine places in the Tokai area, and is believed to possess mystical powers of answering prayers for household safety, prosperous business, and bountiful crops. It is also known as the shrine where Minamoto no Yoritomo prayed for victory when he raised his army and subsequently had his long-cherished wish fulfilled. Although it is located in the center of the city, it is surrounded by rich greenery, and fully blooming cherry blossoms welcome visitors in spring. The shrine receives 500,000 visitors during the annual summer festival (August 15 to 17). The famous rice cakes sold at the teahouse in the precincts are also popular.
