Mikawa-Anjo Station

[Kokonoe Mirin Jidaikan]

Explore the history and delicious flavors of mirin at an earthen-walled storehouse full of history and dignity

Located at the mouth of Yahagi River (which faces Mikawa Bay), Hekinan City has been known since ancient times as one of the best brewing regions for mirin, refined sake, miso, tamari soy sauce, and other produce made using an abundance of water, together with rice, wheat, and soybeans. With more than 240 years of history, Kokonoe Mirin is the Japanese mirin industry's oldest brewery. The 300-year-old large earthen-walled storehouse is a testimony to this. At the top of the stairs at the entrance, there is a mirin museum called Kokonoe Mirin Jidaikan, where you can see old tools, books, and more. Enjoy the true taste of hon-mirin made with traditional methods at the brewery.
Posted photos Main The numerous tools bear witness to all the history.
