[Okutono Jinya (Remains of the Old Seat of the Okutono Domain)]
An estate with a flower garden, where the history and culture of the Okutono Domain remain
After Sanetsugu, a son of the fifth generation of the Ogyu branch of the powerful Matsudaira clan and founder of the Okutono branch of the same clan, governed the surrounding land, Norizane, the first lord of the domain, moved the jinya—the seat of the domain—to Okutono in 1711, and thus Okutono Domain was established. This is the beginning of Okutono Jinya's history. Parts of the manor where the clan members resided and the earthen walls surrounding a beautiful white residence still remain atop a small hill. The restaurant Kinputei, reconstructed in the style of the early Edo period, and the Japanese-style garden Horai-no-Niwa are exceptional. Visitors can enjoy lunch at Kinputei, and taste matcha and Japanese sweets in the shoin parlor. There is also a flower garden with beautiful seasonal flowers.
Okutono Jinya has historical buildings as well as gardens that are beautiful in every season
