Chiryu City's subtly sweet specialty, created in pursuit of deliciousness

Anmaki, a confection made by rolling soft dough around bean paste, is a specialty of Chiryu City. The confection is said to have gained recognition all over Japan in the mid-Meiji period thanks to travelers going back and forth along the Tokaido trade route. Fujitaya, which has multiple branches in Aichi Prefecture, sells Oanmaki (big anmaki) featuring its special, subtly sweet bean paste. Its exquisite sweetness, accomplished through considering the perfect balance given its size, has earned it a long-lived reputation among the locals as something so delicious that you can never get tired of it. There are some unique variations, like anmaki containing cheese or custard cream, or "Tempura Anmaki". Comparing these with the classic Oanmaki is also recommended.
