[Anjo Tanabata Matsuri]
A big summer festival that adds bright color to the whole city
The biggest summer festival in Anjo sees as many as one million visitors. About 1,000 colorfully decorated bamboo trees are put up all around the city. The colorful bamboo decorations fluttering in the wind are a truly wonderful sight, and yet another, dreamy landscape is created when the trees are lit up at night. Many events are also held, such as powerful dance performances and an event in which more than 3,000 "wish balloons" are released into the air. The Tanabata custom of writing wishes on tanzaku (long strips of paper) is said to have started in the Edo period. How about writing a wish on a tanzaku at this festival?
