Kyoto Station
[Sagano Bamboo Forest Path]
Take a walk down a path wrapped in stillness and dignity
This quiet footpath stretches off from the north side of Tenryu-ji Temple. Green bamboo grows thickly on both sides, and the path is a symbolic spot in Kyoto which is often used as a location for shooting TV dramas and commercials. The sight of the never-ending bamboo forest, its trees stretching up to the sky, is truly overwhelming. The forest provides enough shade too keep walkers nice and cool even in summer. The path is particularly silent when there are fewer people around in the early morning and at night, so these are great times to come for a stroll that will leave you feeling like you've had your very spirit cleansed.
