[Omaezaki Lighthouse]

A landmark of Omaezaki that offers a panoramic view of the Enshunada Sea

Omaezaki Lighthouse is a Western-style lighthouse standing on the southernmost point of Shizuoka Prefecture, on Cape Omae, jutting out into the Pacific Ocean. It was built in 1874, under the supervision of a British engineer, to make travel safer on the Enshunada Sea, which was feared by sailors for its strong winds and rough waves. The lighthouse is now loved as a landmark of Omaezaki and has become a hot spot for viewing beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Visitors can go inside the lighthouse, climb the spiral stairs, and enjoy the view of the vast ocean from the observation area. Only a 10-minute walk from the lighthouse is "Siosainozo", a statue popular among lovers. The Omaezaki Lighthouse Festival is held every year in early May.
