[Hoko-ji Temple]

Experience zen temple training in a calm space surrounded by greenery

This is the great head temple of Hoko-ji Temple school of the Rinzai sect. It was opened by Okuyama Tomofuji, one of the Ii family members who had a great influence on Totomi province, and the prince of Emperor Godaigo was invited to the opening. Enjoy the atmosphere of the town in front of the temple, then head along the temple approach surrounded by deep greenery. Along the approach, the stone statues of Gohyakurakan each with a different expression watch over the passing visitors and bring them peace of mind. Strolling around the precincts is of course one of the charms of Hoko-ji Temple, but the temple offers many other attractive experiences as well, such as participating in zazen (reservation and additional fee required) and shakyo (reservation recommended and additional fee required), and tasting seasonal vegetarian cuisine (reservation and additional fee required). Why not refresh your body and mind in a calm, quiet atmosphere?
