Gifu-Hashima Station

[Site of Reversible Destiny]

Be careful not to lose your sense of balance! Interactive art facility

From its name it may seem somewhat mysterious, but this is actually a hands-on facility where the conceptual ideas of the late artist Shusaku Arakawa and Madeline Gins have been turned into a reality. Objets d’art and buildings are dotted all around in the midst of richly undulating nature, and visitors to the park can enjoy appreciating art while strolling among them. There is "Critical Resemblance House", wherein spreads a world in which the ground has been reversed to become the ceiling, household furniture placed on areas that are like ruins, "Destiny House”, in which the ordinary and extraordinary are mixed in together, and more. With common sense turned on its head and made into unprecedented forms of art, you will feel like you might lose your sense of balance. Sharpen all of your senses, and take on a myriad of artistic challenges!
