Izu Shaboten Zoo | Japan Highlights Travel, for sightseeing around Tokaido

Atami Station

[Izu Shaboten Zoo]

Be soothed by the quiet green cacti and have exciting encounters with the animals that freely roam the zoo

At this facility, visitors can enjoy looking at some 1,500 kinds of succulents, including cacti, from around the world and meet and touch the animals. Besides the five greenhouses full of rare cacti, the most exciting experience here will be encounters with the animals that freely roam the park, like squirrel monkeys and white pelicans. The animals are friendly, cute, and known to approach people to ask for food (available for purchase), making them well-loved among visitors. There are two types of animal boat tours (fee required / takes approx. 20 minutes): the "Sail-Around-the-Ponds" course to look around all the ponds in the park, and the "Landing" course that lands on the island where squirrel monkeys and ring-tailed lemurs are raised free-range where passengers can feed them.
