Hoards of billboards with flashy neon signs stand as if to compete with Tsutenkaku, the symbol of Osaka. Shinsekai, a downtown area in Naniwa-ku, Osaka, has a classic Osakan energy to it that almost overwhelms. The neon signs insist on their presence as if to say "the most conspicuous is the best", and along with the advertising slogans sung from the signboards, they keep on drawing the visitors in. Many people are also attracted to Shinsekai by the Showa era nostalgia on view round the area. A wander around the fantastic urban scenery energizes and revitalizes, with its mix of lively activity and bye-gone time-slip atmosphere.
