A spectacular panorama, taking in the whole of Yokohama

Minato Mirai, a district facing the Port of Yokohama. This area is full of quintessential Yokohama spots, such as the Yokohama Landmark Tower, the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse, the ferris wheel and the hotel shaped like a sail. The spot from which this magnificent panorama can be seen in its spectacular entirety is the Daikoku Ohashi. The view west from the middle of this bridge, which links the Tsurumi area to Daikoku Pier, takes in the whole of Minato Mirai. Evening is truly a magical hour, when the sea is stained red and even distant Mt. Fuji can be seen.

Travel advice

Although the bridge is used by vehicles, there is a pedestrian walkway to enable viewing in safety. The nearest stations are Tsurumi-Ono Station on the JR Tsurumi Line or Namamugi Station on the Keikyu Main Line. There is a bus from in front of Namamugi Station to just in front of Daikoku Ohashi, but enjoying the scenery while going there on foot is also to be highly recommended. Beyond the bridge is Yokohama Bay Bridge, which can be seen lit up at night.

The pleasure of travel: Daikoku Ohashi

Yokohama has many spots affording outstanding views, including Rinko Park and the observation floor of Yokohama Landmark Tower. For a typical port atmosphere, you can head over to Osanbashi Pier or Yamashita Park. If you're lucky, you might even see a luxury liner at anchor. Also, romantic nighttime scenery can be enjoyed after sunset at the illuminated Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse for example, or in Minato no Mieru Oka Park (Harbor View Park). If you're looking for good food, eateries like Kiyoken Kakyu, a long-established shumai (Chinese dumpling) restaurant, and Hotel New Grand's "Coffee House The Cafe", birthplace of the Western food menu in Japan, are to be highly recommended.
