[The Sakura of Shizuoka Sengen Shrine and Shizuhatayama Park]

A hiking course through a tunnel of sakura flowers

The Shizuoka Sengen Shrine and Mt. Shizuhata, which forms the backdrop, are famous sakura spots within the prefecture. The course to the mountain peak is a tunnel with moderate ups and downs consisting of about 1,000 sakura trees. First, say a prayer quietly at the Shizuoka Sengen Shrine, and climb the 100 steps to the Mt. Shizuhata hiking course. Let's enjoy hiking while looking up at the blooming sakura overhead. The peak commands a view of Shizuoka City. In early April, the large Hatsukaesai festival is held at Shizuoka Sengen Shrine. The precincts bustle with processions of floats and portable shines, entertainment dedicated to the deity, and stalls.
