A bowl of rice topped with plenty of whitebait, for a real taste of Tagonoura
Tagonoura whitebait are distinctively fresh and firm, because they are caught by one boat and brought to shore quickly so as not to spoil. There are many restaurants that serve Tagonoura whitebait around the port. In particular, at the restaurant the Tagonoura Fisheries Cooperative Associations run on their own premises at Tagonoura Port you can enjoy the local specialty called "namashirasu-don", which consists of a bowl of rice topped with whitebait. What makes this all the more delicious and special is the fact that you can admire the seascape and watch the boats while you eat. When the weather is clear, the port affords a spectacular view of Mt. Fuji.
