[The Museum Meiji-mura]

A museum that creates the elegant ambience of the Meiji period in all aspects, from architecture to gourmet dining

The outdoor museum exhibits contemporary architecture built mainly during the Meiji period. Approximately 70 buildings, including the main entrance hall and lobby of the Imperial Hotel, and St. John's Church, which is nationally designated as a piece of important cultural property, have been relocated and rebuilt on a hillside rich in seasonally-changing nature. Don't miss the chance to ride around the museum on the steam locomotive (SL) or the Kyoto streetcar, which are exhibited in working condition. You can get around the museum efficiently with the reasonably priced one-day transportation pass (paid). Inside, there are eateries where you can sample meals recreated from and styled on dishes appearing in the Meiji period's best-seller novel, "Shokudoraku".
