Hikone Castle is one of the 12 non-reconstructed Japanese castle towers in existence. This castle is designated as a national treasure and maintains its beautiful appearance even today which underwent five renovations since its construction in 1622. It has many attractions such as the tenbin-yagura (tower), the taikomon-yagura (tower), the feudal lord's garden, Genkyuen, as well as the castle tower. The popular character "Hikonyan" appears everyday in the castle area.

Access Take the JR Tokaido Main Line from "Maibara Station" of JR Tokaido Shinkansen for approx. 5 minutes, alight at "Hikone Station", and walk for approx. 10 minutes.
