[Tenryu Hamanako Railroad]
A leisurely trip on a train that stops at every station
The so-called "Tenhama Line" runs a distance of 67.7 km on the north side of Lake Hamana. The locomotive turntable at Tenryu Futamata Station, the station building, platform, and bridge are some of the 36 nationally registered Tangible Cultural Properties located all along the line. Visiting them by train makes for a fun trip, and the landscape you see from the carriage windows invites poignant feelings of nostalgia. Popular highlights include the turntable for turning the trains around and the roundhouse, both of which are still in operation today and are open for tours.
